Overcoming the Challenge

For the launch of their first global release, Netflix was on a mission to create an out-of-this-world experience for the new Netflix Original Series: Lost in Space. Since the show was shot in Canada and starred Canadian talent, it was integral for the event to feature some Canadian flare.

A Unique Way of Approaching The Problem

As the first true Sci-fi series for the brand, we wanted to create something more than just your average screening. To make this happen, we developed a one-of-a-kind viewing experience for 500 fans and media at Toronto’s Cinesphere. As guests arrived, they were transported through a completely transformed audio/visual experience, including replica props from the show.

The Proof Touch

Before being cleared to “board” the Resolute (theatre entrance), guests entered a custom-built airlock chamber that hit them with a burst of air, creating a surprise photo opp. After clearing the airlock chamber, guests entered the bridge (aka the belly of The Resolute), which included custom audio and visual creations that fully immerse audiences in the space-age journey.

Project Impact

Through partnerships with FanExpo and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), we were able to tap into the sci-fi reboot’s cult following and highlight the educational opportunity within the genre. TDSB students submitted written and video essays for a chance to win an intimate meet and greet with Chris Hadfield before the screening started. Following the screening of episode 101, guests were treated to a Q&A session with series star Molly Parker and Col. Chris Hadfield, moderated by InnerSpace’s Ajay Fry.
