Challenge

Overcoming the Challenge

In 2021, Interac was on a mission to bring Canadian communities together again after a year of closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure they made a memorable impact, Interac sponsored three of the largest and most iconic holiday markets The Distillery Winter Village in Toronto; Montreal’s Christmas Village; and the Vancouver Christmas Market.

Strategy

A Unique Way of Approaching The Problem

To help Canadians return to the moments and traditions they’ve missed the most, Interac wanted to not only support local communities, but charities, and small businesses as well. At each individual market, we brought a variety of holiday initiatives, customized for the local culture, and leveraging popular features.

Solution

The Proof Touch

At the Toronto Distillery Winter Village, Interac provided free, colourful gift wrapping at a festive kiosk for attendees who made purchases using Interac Debit. Each gift wrap offered an opportunity to give back to a local charity instead of paying for the service.

At the Vancouver Christmas Market, the cost of rides on the HolidayLife Carousel (usually $10) was provided at no charge for the entire market season. Riders were offered the opportunity to pay their fare forward with a charitable donation using our on-site Interac contactless payment. To encourage shareable family moments, we added a holiday-themed photo booth.

At the Montreal Christmas Village, we offered holiday treats for a small donation at the HolidayLife Fire Pit area and Airstream Cafe, which created a cozy environment to relax and connect with loved ones.

Project Impact

Interac’s sponsorship was strategically designed to benefit pre-selected local charities across Canada. We encouraged holiday market goers to make donations to the Salvation Army and Sick Kids Hospital Foundation (Toronto), Make-A-Wish Foundation (Vancouver and Montreal) and Project10 (Montreal) using Interac Debit contactless payment kiosks.
